John Duff’s musical imagination of this year’s Olympic Games features a Central Commentary Team, Brandon and Bernie, who cross to a team of reporters to bring us all the excitement of the sporting events and the spectacle of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
The competitors interviewed are true professionals. However, the same cannot be said for some members of the media team: Brandon is emotionally overwhelmed by … everything, much to Bernie’s annoyance; an over excited Mitch tries to outshine the athletes; and Barry spends the whole broadcast dealing with ‘audio issues’ – all leading to hilarious antics!
But of course, it is the athletes themselves who are the real stars. Each sporting team presents a musical performance including: ‘Splash! Splash!’ (swimming), ‘Hit the Ground Running’ (athletics), ‘One Very Special Night’ (gymnastics) and ‘Pump It Up!’ (basketball).
The stirring title song, ‘Spirit of the Dream’, encapsulates the essence of the Olympic Games:
